The U.S. Under-23 Women’s National Team will travel to La Manga, Spain from Feb. 25-March 7 and will play three matches, taking on its counterparts from Japan (March 2), England (March 4) and Norway (March 7). North Carolina Courage players Samantha Witteman, Ashley Hatch and Makenzy Doniak have been named to the roster.

These will be the first international matches of the year for the U.S. U-23 WNT.

Witteman recently joined the NC Courage in a trade with the Orlando Pride in January. In her rookie NWSL season, she started in 12 out of 16 games played for the Orlando Pride in 2016. She was a standout at University of California, Berkley from 2012-2015 where she was awarded First Team All-Pac 12 and NSCAA All-American honors.

Doniak was a member of the U.S. team that won the 2014 CONCACAF Women’s U-20 Championship in the Cayman Islands, but broke her hand 54 minutes into the first game and missed the rest of the tournament. She has experience with the U-20s, U-18s, U-15s and U-14s. In her first season in the NWSL in 2016, Doniak started in 15 out of 20 games played and totaled three goals and four assists for the Western New York Flash.

Hatch was the NC Courage’s first round selection (second overall) at the 2017 NWSL College Draft. The 22-year-old is one of seven players on the roster who have seen training time with the full U.S. Women’s National Team. She has one cap against Switzerland on Oct. 19, 2016, in Sandy, Utah. Hatch played collegiately at Brigham Young University. The forward has scored 47 goals and recorded 21 assists for the Cougars in her four years on the team, earning her All-WCC First Team honors.

While this roster features mostly professional players, the rosters for the events for the remainder of the spring and summer will feature primarily collegiate players as the NWSL season will be in full swing.

Following the trip to La Manga, the next event for the U.S. U-23 WNT will see the team take part in the Thorns Spring Invitational from March 26-April 1 in Portland, Oregon. The USA will take on three NWSL teams at Providence Park, playing the Houston Dash on Sunday, March 26 at 2:30 p.m. PT followed by Portland taking on Chicago at 5 p.m. PT. On Wednesday, March 29, Chicago takes on Houston at 5 p.m. PT and the USA will face the Thorns at 7:30 p.m. PT. The USA closes out the tournament against the Chicago Red Stars on Saturday, April 1 at 5 p.m. and Portland ends the tournament against Houston at 7:30 p.m. PT.

The U-23 WNT will be in La Manga at the same time as the U-20 WNT, which will also be playing three matches.
