Tess Boade Joins 2022 North Carolina Courage Roster
CARY, NC (March 18, 2022) – The North Carolina Courage today announced the signing of midfielder Tess Boade to a one-year contract with an option to renew for the 2023 season.
“Today is a very special day,” Boade said. “Not only signing my first professional contract, but also getting to return to the triangle area after my 4.5 years at Duke. I want to win trophies and this club is the best place to do it. I’m eager to get to work.” Drafted 40th overall in the 2021 NWSL Draft by NJ/NY Gotham FC, Boade graduated from Duke University where she played five seasons with the Blue Devils. Throughout her career, the 23-year-old played in 93 games, 67 of which were starts, clocking 5,837 minutes of playing time. The Highlands Ranch, CO native also scored 22 goals and added 15 assists to collect a total of 59 points. While at Duke, Boade was named to the 2021 All-ACC First Team, the 2021 United Soccer Coaches All-Atlantic Region Second Academic Team, and the ACC Honor Roll in 2021 and 2018. Boade has also trained with the US U-18 and U-19 Women’s National Teams and travelled with the US U-17 WNT to South Korea in 2014, and also participated in U-15 WNT training that year. “Tess was someone we had interest in before the season started,” head coach Sean Nahas said. “When the opportunity to bring her into our team became available, we jumped on it. She is a tidy footballer with great energy and ability to find the final ball, but also one who can link players together in possession. She came in right away and fit in well with our group, and we look forward to having her continue to develop as we move forward in the season and she begins to get more comfortable.” Boade will be available for the Courage’s home Challenge Cup match tomorrow, March 19th at 7 p.m. ET against NJ/NY Gotham FC.
