Cary, NC (June 19, 2020)- The North Carolina Courage announced today that Ally Watt has signed a two-year contract, Addisyn Merrick and Lindsay Agnew have signed one-year contracts with one-year options, and Sinclaire Miramontez has signed a short-term contract through the NWSL Challenge Cup. Merrick, Miramontez, and Watt were all selected by the Courage in the 2020 NWSL Draft held in Baltimore in January.
Watt has been on a journey since being drafted out of Texas A&M. The speedy forward played five games with Melbourne City in the W-League from January through March. Melbourne City went on to win the W-League Grand Final, Watt scoring three goals during the team’s run for the title. Drafted 6th overall, Watt was the highest-ever pick out of Texas A&M. She is no stranger to the back of the net, scoring 49 times in 90 matches. She will join a Courage front line with the likes of Lynn Williams and Jessica McDonald. Miramontez and Merrick were drafted back-to-back in the draft as the 27th and 28th picks. The two grew up playing together at the same club, Sporting Blue Valley Soccer Club. They then went to rival colleges as Miramontez attended Nebraska and Merrick attended Kansas. The two defenders join a backline led by Abby Dahlkemper and Abby Erceg. “Merrick is very good on the ball. She has great speed, great technical ability,” NC Courage head coach Paul Riley said in January following the NWSL Draft. “She’ll help us down the flank areas and at center back if needed. I think the most important thing is that we got hybrid players, and (Miramontez and Merrick) were the two hybrid players we thought could help us in different positions.” Agnew was drafted in 2017 by the Washington Spirit and made eight appearances with the club before being traded to the Houston Dash in 2018. She made 19 appearances with Houston before being waived in January. The Canadian represented her country in the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup. She made her debut with the Canadian National Team in 2017. The North Carolina Courage will return to the field for the first time in eight months on Saturday, June 27 at 12:30 p.m. ET. The match against the Portland Thorns will air on CBS.
