Mia Oliaro named USL W South Atlantic Division Player of the Year

CARY, N.C. (July 25, 2023) – North Carolina Courage U23 standout Mia Oliaro has been named USL W League South Atlantic Division Player of the Year. The 18-year-old adds another seasonal award, being named the league’s Young Player of the Year last week.

Oliaro, a U.S. Youth National Team standout, NC Courage Academy product, and incoming freshman at collegiate powerhouse North Carolina, scored five goals and had six assists as a main focal point for the Courage U23s’ offense, leading the team to a national runner-up finish in the league’s second season. She provided the assist on the game-tying goal in the USL W League Final with a picturesque cross in the 75’ to force extra time against Indy Eleven. She helped lead the Courage to an unbeaten regular season record (11-0-1) and a +39 goal differential, which clinched the top spot in the South Atlantic Division. The team then hosted the Southern Conference playoffs, thwarting FC Miami City and Tampa Bay United to claim the Southern Conference Championship title. The Courage U23’s then went on to host the USL W League Semifinal against Eastern Conference champions Eagle FC, defeating them by a score of 4-1, with Oliaro scoring the opening goal for the Courage. The Courage then went onto the USL W League Final, where the young squad gave Indy Eleven all they could handle in a 120-minute thriller, ending their season as national runner-up with a 14-1-1 record. Oliaro will begin her collegiate career down the road in Chapel Hill this fall.
