Courage Sign Danish Forward Rikke Madsen
CARY, NC (Aug. 27, 2022) – Prior to the NWSL’s recent roster freeze deadline earlier this week, the North Carolina Courage signed Danish forward Rikke Madsen through 2023.
“To add someone with the experience that Rikke has had in her career will only help strengthen our roster,” Courage Head Coach Sean Nahas said. “Fresh out of the Euros this Summer we are fortunate to have her join our club. We look forward to having her here and helping us build towards the future. We want to continue to build something special here and this is yet another piece of that puzzle.”
Madsen joins the Courage from Madrid CFF, where she made 12 appearances and scored one goal for the Spanish club. Madsen also brings international playing experience to the Courage, having recorded 18 appearances and a goal for the Denmark women’s national team. Most recently, Madsen appeared in two matches for the Danish side in the 2022 UEFA Women’s EURO.
“I’m very happy to sign with North Carolina,” Madsen said. “I think we’re a fabulous match and I can’t wait to meet everyone and get started.”
Prior to her time in Spain, the attacker played three seasons with Vålerenga, a Norwegian club that competes in the Toppserien league. The 25-year-old logged 47 appearances for Vålerenga, 42 of which were starts, clocking 3,635 minutes of playing time, scoring five goals and tallying six assists.
The Courage return to action on Sunday, Aug. 28 as they travel to face the Kansas City Current at Children’s Mercy Park in Kansas City, KS. The match will kick off at 7 p.m. ET, and can be streamed live on Paramount+ and Twitch (internationally).
