Courage Partner with Governor’s Institute, Joining Battle Against Opioid Epidemic
NC Courage Starting XI to be accompanied by youth player companions wearing superhero capes ahead of May 22 match in support of “Be A Superhero in the Opioid Battle” Campaign. Capes to be autographed by Courage players and auctioned off, with proceeds going to the Alcohol Drug Council of North Carolina
Cary, NC (May 22, 2022) – The North Carolina Courage has announced a new partnership with the Governor’s Institute – a Raleigh-based non-profit that focuses on equipping healthcare professionals to better identify and treat substance use disorders in North Carolina. The club will kick-off this partnership with the Governor’s Institute ahead of their home match against the San Diego Wave on Sunday, May 22.
To help raise awareness around the Governor’s Institute’s “Be A Superhero in the Opioid Battle” campaign, the starting lineup for the Courage will be accompanied by youth player companions wearing ‘superhero’ capes, during the pre-game procession. The capes will then be signed by Courage players and auctioned off, with all proceeds going directly to the Alcohol Drug Council of North Carolina (ADCNC). ADCNC is a non-profit organization that provides education and recovery support services, including locating treatment services, for anyone seeking help statewide for various substance use disorders. “This partnership is important because there is a great deal of misinformation and stigma regarding substance misuse and individuals with addiction often do not receive help because they (and their families and even healthcare providers) do not know where to turn. Partnering with the NC Courage gives us the opportunity to shine a light on this huge societal problem and let people know what they can do for themselves, their families or their friends facing this very treatable disease,” said Dr. Sara McEwen, Executive Director of the Governor’s Institute. The Governor’s Institute launched this initiative last fall, encouraging everyone to get involved in the fight against addiction and offering concrete ways to do that. More information on the “Be a Superhero in the Opioid Battle Campaign” and the Governor’s Institute can be found HERE. The Courage take on the San Diego Wave, one of the 2022 NWSL expansion teams, for the first time in club history, at home this Sunday, May 22 at 2 p.m. ET. Tickets for this match can be found HERE. The match will also stream live on Paramount+ and Twitch (Internationally).
