Courage acquire midfielder Victoria Pickett from Gotham FC

CARY, N.C. (April 27, 2023) – The North Carolina Courage have acquired veteran NWSL midfielder Victoria Pickett via trade with Gotham FC in exchange for $200,000 in allocation money. The former NWSL Rookie of the Year finalist is in her third professional season and has extensive experience with the Canadian National Team system.

So far in 2023, Pickett has played 104 minutes across three regular season matches, including one start for Gotham. She’s won five fouls while conceding just one, has won 11 duels with a 65% success rate and holds a passing accuracy above 77% for the year. “We are excited to add Victoria to our club. She is someone we’ve noticed since her rookie year and always felt she can have a great impact on any team. She has great technical quality and comfort on the ball with a strong ability to dribble. She’s a player we feel can help us in all phases of the game and someone who can come in and help us to continue building something special. She’s a player and person I’m confident our fans will be excited about. I know she’s excited to be here and we’re thrilled to have her,” said head coach Sean Nahas. Pickett was drafted 15th overall by the Kansas City Current in 2021 and spent parts of two seasons with the club, appearing in 35 games with 30 starts. Pickett, who was a Rookie of the Year finalist in 2021, will forever be a part of the history of the Current, scoring the game-winner in the new Kansas City franchise’s first-ever NWSL win in a 1-0 victory over OL Reign. In August of 2022, she was traded to Gotham in exchange for allocation money and a first-round draft pick. Pickett played in seven games, making five starts, to close out the year with Gotham. Overall, Pickett has logged 45 games and 36 starts in NWSL regular season action. She was drafted out of the University of Wisconsin, where she was a two-time first team All-Big Ten selection in 2017 and 2018. She’s also represented her country at the CONCACAF U-17 Championship and the FIFA U-17 and U-20 World Cup before playing with the senior squad for a pair of friendlies in 2021. The Courage now have 25 active players on the roster, plus one on Injured Reserve and one on the Season-Ending Injury list.
