CARY, NC (February 3, 2022) — North Carolina Courage goalkeeper Casey Murphy has been named to the US Women’s National team roster for the 2022 SheBelieves Cup, presented by Visa, the club announced today. The tournament will be held Feb. 17-23, with the United States playing a series of matches against the Czech Republic, Iceland and New Zealand. The contests will take place in two cities and two stadiums – Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, CA, and Toyota Stadium in Frisco, TX.
This is Murphy’s fifth call-up to the US Women’s National Team, following her most recent call up in January to the USWNT’s camp in Austin, TX. Previously, Murphy put on a dazzling performance in a series of friendlies against the Matildas in November 2021 and collected her first appearances with the senior team, registering nine saves across three games.
Arguably one of the most impressive goalkeepers in the NWSL during the 2021 season, Murphy posted 11 clean sheets in 24 matches played, tying a league record for clean sheets in an individual season set by Adrianna Franch. She also maintained an 82% success rate in saves while collecting 33 catches, 14 punches, and 20 clearances, and ended the season as the league leader in saves, totaling 109 saves over the course of the regular and postseason. During the quarterfinal round of the NWSL playoffs, Murphy broke her own record for most saves in an individual playoff match, making 13 saves against the Washington Spirit.
